Automotive manufacturing and materials
The automotive manufacturing and materials area seeks to develop new technologies for manufacturing processes that reduce weight, costs and time to produce automotive components and systems. It also strives to improve quality of the manufactured parts, by improving the flexibility and efficiency of manufacturing processes. Specific current research includes sheet metal stamping, welding, lighter weight and composite materials, smart materials (such as shape memory alloys and magnetorheological fluids), better tool designs for machining of automotive parts, robotics, mechatronics and automation.
